Update: A Catch Up & Cuppa With Me.

Leave a comment Standard

Happy Friday you beautiful bunch of lovely people. How was the week been treating you? I hope you are all well and there are very little grumbles to be had.

I realised I hadn’t posted since the 4th of May which can be read just here. . . “Who Puts the Bra in Equality” and before that was my ever so popular Avengers Non-Spoiler Review but it hit me I wont be achieving my May Goals, which is focusing on blog views, if I don’t have anything engaging and current to pull you over here.

So I have decided to drop this “Update” post to give you all an insight into what has been happening in the world of Ross. Pop the kettle on, get settled in and lets catch up.

Firstly at the start of the month I went on holiday a week in Benidorm, All Inclusive and SUN SUN SUN. I used this as an opportunity to switch off, put my phone in airplane mode and just recharge my cells and enjoy myself. We had a really good time and it was much-needed. Bit of drama on the way home with a couple of drunken Indian Play boys getting out of control and abusive to the cabin staff – resulting in the Plane being greeted at 2am by Armed Police. Welcome to England!

IMG_20180511_145934_347.jpg

Getting back into the swing of things with work was tough, like any normal person returning from a week of lounging by the pool, sipping beer and eating foreign ice creams, the Holiday Blues set in hard and I DID NOT want to be back here. But I got on with it and here we are.

So what is new!

While on holiday I started writing a story – I call it story for moment because there is no plan or understanding just yet of what it will become. It could be a Short, a Novel, heck I could get going and it become a Saga or Series. Who knows. I don’t want to say much about it just yet but what I will say is that I am finding it really fun and expressive to write. I used to write shorts and film scripts all the time at Uni but this is the first time in a long time I am trying something a little new. It all came about from one scene I had in mind and my process at the moment is just to write and see where it takes me. Aiming for that one scene. Not sure this is the best approach but I am sure once (or if) I get to the finished stage I can iron a lot of it out in the rewrite process. As well for the few people who are aware of my attempt to become the next Archer or King they have been very supportive, wanting to be kept updated with the process and even offering to proof read it. Which is amazing and so good to hear!

I have also been reading “Close your eyes” which is the latest thriller by Darren O’Sullivan. His first book “Our Little Secret” was an instant winner, a breathtaking, can’t put it down story that deserves your attention – I wrote a review on it a while back which is just HERE. I am a few chapters in on this new one and it is just as good if not better, I am so hooked already and can’t wait to see how this one unfolds.

Pin Ideas

Final thing I want to talk about is Merchandise. I want to get my brand off the ground, become something inspirational and I have decided that Merchandise is the way forward.

Looking at making designs and patterns that I can put on Mugs, Shirts and Badges. They are a lot of fun to make and can’t wait to see how far I can go and how it all turns out. I am even looking into building a high quality printer to make postcards and bookmarks at home.

Putting it all on paper this sounds like I’ve been really busy, hey what do you know.

But I can feel it will get busier. . . . OH I also started a Saving Scheme. But I think that might be the topic of another post because I have waffled enough here and people might be interested in a full post about saving money, rather than a random paragraph here.

So once again, as always, you dear readers – Thank you for everything, for your support and love. You are the reason I do this . . . and because it is fun. But mainly you.

Mwah!

Who puts the “Bra” in Equality

Comments 10 Standard

Today’s post is almost a guest post type of deal. Hopefully it will find it’s legs and get off the ground but as we begin I am just aiming in a direction and preying we get there – Like when you approach a large roundabout and you are not 100% sure on which lane you need. We’ll get there.

My GF suggested blogging about this because and I quote “You have a lot of female followers and it’s just something that really annoys me” – from that you can tell this is going to be a girl orientated post so I ask: Ladies here this cry as I bet it’s going to be relatable and Gents also stick around as no doubt you would have heard similar in the past from the females.

Bras for Big Boobs vs Bras for Small Boobs

We are going on holiday this weekend and so you know what that means, a lot of rushing round, buying sun cream, new clothes and changing money up. Well two out of three isn’t bad but when it came to new clothes the GF really wanted to pick up some new strap-less bras – Can’t have strap line tan marks, that will never do she informed me. So the mission was a foot. Few trips into town with no success, her annoyance was grouping and the holiday countdown was getting closer to the end.

See the problem she has is . . . she has rather big boobs! Yes I know lucky me blah blah blah but when it comes to clothing it’s a royal pain for her because she can’t find nice reasonable priced clothing that fits and for me it’s a pain because I have to hear about it and watch her get upset. The frustration is with retailers and brands, the size selections that are offered usually leaves us stood there looking at a sea of shelves and stacks of A, B, C size Bras, a few D’s, even fewer DD’s and then a poor selection of anything bigger.

The anger grows from here, in a world that is trying so hard to be politically correct, trying to be inclusive of everyone, not offend anyone and overall promote equality. It currently doesn’t look like that when you walk into Primark, New Look or even Tesco.

In fairness I am trying to steer clear from having a rant about Primark altogether – maybe that is for another post on another time.

How the big chains think it’s ok and very acceptable to only provide bra sizing for a limited sizing is bizarre to me and annoyingly frustrating for her. I know it could be said that certain shops don’t stock every size jeans, I mean I don’t shop in H&M because there is no way a 34inch pair of jeans are going round my somewhat chiseled godly belly. And I accept that, I know where to shop and where to avoid – but for something like bra’s I think that should be a different story – they are underwear, supportive, functional pieces of clothing. If the jeans don’t fit, I can pop on joggers or shorts, if the bra doesn’t fit what are the ladies supposed to? Maybe pop on a . . . what ever the alternative is – oh wait there isn’t one. Bra or No Bra that is the question.

11124337

Her rant will continue, imagine this – a sea of lush, sexy, cute styled bras made up of silks, lace and all that nice fancy stuff that makes a bra look as good as it is supportive. There at the back of the rail is a hanger that says 38DD or 40E (something for the fuller bust) so you reach in and imagine the disgust when you pull out a plain beige bra. I for one couldn’t even tell you what beige was, is it cream? Is it nude? Whatever it is it’s not the sexy purple and pink lace thing at the front of the rail. If a shop is going to accommodate for the large boob they think beige, black or white is the only acceptable colours – like are bigger girls not as sexy as the AA breasted ones?

That board meeting must have been a hoot and I think a few people need to start looking for new jobs after making that decision.

Yes I know, she knows, we all know there are stores that do stock the bigger size and some of the ranges are very tasty. But these specific stores come with a premium. £50 for a single bra in Victoria Secret compared to the three for £20 in Primark. So you’ve been blessed with big boobs but the price you pay for that is back pain unless you have a really good supportive bra and then you need a small mortgage to buy enough to keep you going. Is that fair? Does that make sense?

Am I making her point here. Can you relate to this and see what I am talking about?

I hope so.

TB1GrSZdtHO8KJjSZFHXXbWJFXa_!!0-item_pic

So back to boobs and the hunt for a strap-less bra days before our holiday, the shops have not got the selection, so we hit the online shopping looking for a click and collect service; ASDA – No joy, Tesco – again like the store its a no, Debenhams, Peacocks, M&S all no luck. This is a floored system that needs to be addressed surely.

So my lunch break comes around on Tuesday – I head off in the hunt to please my fair maiden. Out of the 4 shops I dashed into only one shop (Yours) had the strap-less style bra she wanted. So £17 late – I know right! I was out of there. There was some funny looks as I hunted around the lingerie sections and even more so when I was buying the bra while holding a box of cat food – bless the girl who was working in the shop. She asked if I had wanted a bag? – Yes please lovely it might look very odd walking around carrying a bra and cat food. We laughed! Thank you “Yours”

So now the holiday is back on track, the GF has what she needs. But it’s a real eye opener when it comes to every day shopping, sizing and the product lines these big go-to high street brands offer.

Now we are at the end, we have ranted, bought bras and got frustrated along the way. But I hope I have done the GF justice in her rant, I hope at least some of you can find this relatable and agree that something surely should be done about this!

Leave your comments below, share this amongst the world, we should make a movement and give the big brands a shout out. Or is that too Anarchist and no very PC?

I was tagged in this post by AToughTimeToBeHonest and I for one am grateful for the tag – I love these posts and I think they are amazing ways to learn something about everyone.

And literally a day after being tagged in this, Lana and Ryan from The Cole Camp Fire tagged me too so now I am thanking them and answering more questions set upon me.

Both blogs are amazing and ran by supportive people who has so much passion that they are a credit to the blogging community and their work – go follow, support and share.

The Award strikes again and I was also tagged in LizzumsLivesLife which if you don’t follow you should, she is amazing!

I wont lie I just copied this line from the tagged post because I wouldn’t know where to find the creator – But here we go the creator of the Mystery Blogger Award is Okoto Enigma check out her lifestyle and travel blog here.

Now a chance to shine – three things you might not know about me.

IM

  1. When I was younger, say 7 or 8 I got lost in Matalan, I was too busy running around and darting through the racks that I lost my family. On reflection it was very Blair
Witch. Just manically running in circles.
  2. I am a sucker for fancy dress – I LOVE IT. I don’t go half hearted. It’s all or nothing. Over time I have donned many faces (maybe I should right a post about it) but this is by far one of my favourite costumes.
  3.  And the final thing about me – as much as I find the wildlife and scenery beautiful, I am scared of the Ocean, the depths and what lurks down there. I would much prefer to be stuck in Space than at the bottom of the Ocean. Have you seen some of the critters that live down there?

Now looking at the rules I think there is something missing, or I have made a mistake. But it’s time to continue. . . or make it up as I go along. Going forward I want people to do the three facts and then answer the set questions.

The Questions

From AToughTimeToBeHonest

  1. Where do you see yourself in 10 years. – Family Man. Married with a Child in a nice house with a dog – I can’t wait for the dog!
  2. Favourite drink, alcoholic or not? – Can’t beat a lovely Cuppa Tea or a Gin 😉
  3. Should Pluto be recognised as a planet? – Probably not, he’s a dog! Real answer, Yes I do. My GF’s sister was learning the planets the other week and it occurred to me they have it easier now as when I was learning their was one more. Bring it back!
  4. Android or Apple? – Android for Phone, Apple for Computer.
  5. Post the funniest photo you can of yourself which reminds you of a time you had fun. – Get a load of this! (Pete, Me, Mole & Tom) This was taken at Mole’s Stag do that his now Step Son and my best friend Tom organised. It was such a messy night but so many good memories.263472_195546863830830_3545073_n

The Questions

From The Cole Camp Fire

  1. Do you have pets? Tell me about your pets. – We have a cat at our house which is my GF’s sister but when she moved out she couldn’t take the cat. I am not a fan of the cat! The Cat is the bane of my home life. I can’t wait to move into a house and get a dog. I don’t like Cat’s think they are superior and think they deserve everything – where a dog is loyal and respectful.
  2. If you’re the star of a reality show, what would it be about? – I would say it would be about my life – maybe a video form of my blog. Showcasing me growing up dealing with adult life, planning the next steps and becoming a success.
  3. What is the book you are currently reading? – I am not a big reader, which I will admit I don’t like and wish I could read more. Currently I am reading David Jason’s Only Fools and Stories.
  4. Share with me something we don’t know about you? – Oh golly I am constantly being asked this now days I don’t know what you do and don’t know. Ok I once broke my arm playing basketball, clean snap and had to don a sexy orange cast while it healed.
  5. Michael Jordan or Lebron James? – Being a brit I am not big on Basketball and so would have to pick Michael Jordan on his merit for the Space Jam Movie.

The Questions

From LizzumsLivesLife

  1. Have you ever broken a bone? – Yes, my arm while playing Basketball in High School
  2. When was the last time you went on a stay-cation/overnight trip? – Well I just got back off a real holiday so . . . but last overnight trip was probably visiting my dad a few weeks back – or if that doesn’t count. We went to London last year for a show and weekend away which was cute.
  3. What did you want to grow up to become when you were a child? – A had several jobs on the list when I was young; An Artist, Chef, Fireman.
  4. What is your current music obsession? – George Ezra is my jam at the moment, I am loving his new album and in particular ‘Paradise’
  5. Do you generally prefer the book or it’s movie adaption? – As a film geek I much prefer the films, but then I will go back and read the book. The occasions I have thought. Book wins in recent years is Jo Nesbo’s – The Snowman. I couldn’t put the book down and then the film came out I was so excited . . . only to be let down but a pile of steamy rubbish.

Nominations!

This is a bit I don’t like about these, because one I have to pick people and I want to tag you all and I also need to remember who I am tagging so I can tweet it out. But here we go.

Avengers Infinity War – Non Spoiler review.

Comments 5 Standard

Wow!

Last night I watched The Avengers Infinity War and what can I say!

marvel-avengers-infinity-war-trailer-unpopular-opinion

So this post is spoiler free as I don’t want to ruin the experience for anyone, so stick with me here as I attempt to tiptoe around the story trying to give as much information as I can while also trying to not give you anything at the same time – and just like Hulks punch it is proving hard going.

I am lost for words. On first reflection it was slower than the first Avengers. I love the first one because it runs so smooth but I felt this one changed speed a few times. Which isn’t a bad thing because let’s be honest they have a lot going on. But it builds nicely and just works on an impressive scale.

newspic-72477

What can I say without saying anything. Thanos is a brilliant bad guy – the reasoning behind his motives is somewhat logical in a mad kind of way and even the character development for him was stunning. They have managed to create the character so well that you feel as much emotion for him as you do the others. The emotions might not be the same but they are there non the less.

The teams were brilliant. Bringing everyone together worked so well. The bolshie arrogance of Stark mixed with the comical humor of Star Lord was genius. Spider-Man was a great inclusion throwing his young spirited naivety, yet willing to prove himself into the mix worked just as well as it did in Civil War and they also pair other great unlikely characters up which was something we never knew we needed but now just want to see again – *Cough* Thor and Rocket *Cough*

I was left with a few niggles here and there but I’m going to let it set in for a few days and then come back to it and see how I feel about them. That I think is standard with big films like this and alot of people I have spoken to have said similar things, but that in no way takes anything away from the overall amazing specticle I witnessed.

The ending left me somewhat in two minds. I want one result but think it’s more likely the other thought is more realistic. But that doesn’t change the magnitude of the film and what it means for the overall MCU world – we have seen this universe build and grow for ten years and this film is such a pay off that it’s everything we have wanted and more.

AvengersInfinityWars

Today the office is a bubbling pot of excitement as everyone is talking about the film, the theories, the trauma. It’s going to be one of those films that will be talked about and dissected for years to come. Leaving questions like – What have I witnessed? Where do we go next? How will we come back from this? To the point where someone has made a google sheet to label questions and thoughts so we can all throw opinions and answers into the mix.

Overall all I can say is the hype and build up did it justice – it’s doesn’t let you down and is a MUST see. If you enjoy the Marvel films even a little bit you will love this one. It’s a long film but from the very start you are thrown into this world and left shocked that the time has vanished. You won’t want it to end and could sit through it all again. I am already planning my second viewing as I think a few watches are needed just to help digest the sheer awesomeness of this masterpiece.

Mentally prepare yourself – it’s a thrill ride and I promise you will love it!

My Marvel Top Five.

Comments 13 Standard

After some amazing and lovely feedback from the first part of this post, here I am . . . yes you guessed it – with the second part.

This was meant to be included in the guide but that post just ran away with me and got a bit too long to include a Top Five in it, but that is good because now I have a bit more space to go in-depth. Also remember I am only picking from the MCU. So lets jump straight to the point shall we.

Here is my list, in no order.

My Marvel Top Five!

  1. The Avengers  The first outing who the whole team. This gathered Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in one super-sized cinema screen which was something that had never really been done before. . . And my god I loved every single minute of it – I still do in fairness, it holds up nicely and has everything you could ever ask for. Favourite Scene: The Battle of New York, the way the camera pans around the streets and joins all the heroes up in one amazing action shot.

  2. Captain America: Civil War – Again another outing for the group and a bigger selection of character. I like this more and more nowadays, we’ve seen these characters and we know they live in the same world. So it makes sense we see them pop up in each others movies and this does exactly that. With the introduction of Spider-Man and Black Panther this just showed another level to the MCU and their ability to maintain so many big names and character in one scene. Favourite Scene: The Airport Scene – Watching everyone go against each other, even if they are friends – Clint and Natasha exchanging banter between blows. While Spider-Man brings a youth and excitement to the fight which is refreshing and comical.

  3. Guardians of the Galaxy – The Avengers in Space . . . with a talking tree. Not knowing much about the Guardians when it first came around I was intrigued about the idea of the ragtag group of space cowboys and douchebags. And let’s be honest the film did not disappoint – with an amazing cast, brilliant action scenes and phenomenal soundtrack, Guardians took the world by storm and became a hit. Favourite Scene: The Kiln Prison Escape Scene. The comedy mixed with the action works amazingly, using this scene to demonstrate each characters traits and styles. Related image

  4. Thor: Ragnarok – Now when people say the third in the trilogy is always the worst we can all response with this film. I am probably going to be bold enough to say this is the BEST Thor film out there. Expanding the world even more and somewhat grounding Thor as he meets not just Gods, but Dictators, Slaves and waste landers. The style of this film comes out swinging with a comical element that doesn’t grow old and the story plays a big part in the MCU, with several nods to the bigger picture of Thanos and the Infinity War. Favourite Scene: Has to be Thor fighting the Hulk.

  5. Captain America: Winter Solider – The reason this gem has hit the list is because of the genre and style of the film. I am a big Spy / Espionage film fan and this one delves straight into the genre. Watching Captain America adjust to the modern world and deal with a whole new way of life is really interesting to watch as well. Also this film links really nicely to the TV show – Agents of SHIELD, you can see how they are effected by this movie. Favourite Scene: The Elevator Fight Scene, it might be short and sweet but it’s tense and slightly comical how many people keep getting in compared to the amount that walk (or burst) out.

I just love the MCU films as a form of escapism and geek rolled into one. They have worked the formula out and continue to nail it. If you are anything like me, you will be counting day the days till you see Infinity Wars (5 days to go) and trying to remain the calm and collective individual that you are while on the inside screaming in sheer fan girl style. I would love to know your Top Five films so drop me a comment or a line on twitter and let me know.

Right now go and enjoy the weekend. I have taught you all I can in the time we have left. I wish you luck, it’s been a pleasure as always.

A Book Review – Our Little Secret.

Comments 3 Standard

20180413_091705.jpg

End of last year I wrote a book review. Today ive picked up a signed copy after its was published last week. This is that review.

So something you might learn about me is that I am not a big reader. I can read and I do enjoy reading at times but I can go for months or maybe years without reading a book. It’s just one of those things. I struggle to find something that can grip me and hold my attention because to me reading is a lot of work. It’s more so than say watching a film or playing PlayStation.

Saying this I am always proud as punch when I do find a book that I genuinely can’t put down and this post is about one of them books.

Our Little Secret is a short thriller from the mind of debut adult author Darren O’Sullivan (no relation – that we know of). A gripping story told from the point of view of several of its main characters. This is how the blurb sells it to us:

“A deserted train station: A man waits. A woman watches. Chris is ready to join his wife. He’s planned this moment for nearly a year. The date. The time. The train. But he hadn’t factored in Sarah. So when Sarah walks on to the platform and sees a man swaying at the edge she assumes he’s just had too much to drink. What she doesn’t expect is to stop a suicide. As Sarah becomes obsessed with discovering the secrets that Chris is clearly hiding, he becomes obsessed with stopping her, protecting her. But there are some secrets that are meant to stay buried…”

This sold it, I thought – why not, let’s take this for a spin and I was not disappointed at all. Without it sounding cliché I couldn’t put it down – any chance I had I would read a couple of pages. Going to bed, bored at work, whilst eating breakfast and heck even when I was on the loo, I was captivated and hooked.

The story follows Chris a troubled man who is ready to end it all, as we dive deeper into his world his reasoning and motives both shock and surprise the audience. Constantly questioning what he is doing, what the next move is and how will it end.

Pair that with the dynamic and inquisitive Sarah – to me she drives the story along as a relatable character that discovers the truth as we do, which I also like in a story I prefer to learn with a lead character than to be talked at and expected to pick it up when they tell me to.

20180413_091652-e1523614073519.jpg

Her character was so deep and well thought out that it genuinely felt like I knew her or at least people like her, which again helped keep the story engaging for me.

Like any classic thriller this keeps you guessing, suggesting one thing and convincing you that you know what is going on before taking one sharp hand brake turn in the opposite direction, but not before knocking your socks off and making you question your own ability to make judgement calls.

Right up to the bitter end the story had me glued and all I can say – or even urge – is buy a copy, give it a read and just be in awe. The finale is one amazingly scripted act – the reveal is somewhat haunting and makes the whole book fall into place and ends with a bitter-sweet stunned silence.

A final touch that I loved with this story is the locations. This is set in Peterborough and March which are places I know oh so well and just something as simple as that helped make the story more real to me rather than the generic London setting, this idea to keep the setting localised and more at home just made the story even better in my eyes.

It’s currently only available on iBooks or Kindle but for a short story on the iPad it has cleared up several proud accolades and gained some supportive reviews and feedback that has made Darren the author one proud little bunny. So much so that he is already well into book two, which I for one can not wait to read.

Finally once more let me just say how much I really enjoyed this story and can not recommend it enough. Check it out.

Full disclosure I am not on the take or being paid by HQ Digital UK or Darren O’Sullivan. I am just a guy who read a book (finally), wanted to tell you all about it and also I just want to help this talented author out – if I can generate one new reader then I have done my job.
