I love doing these kind of posts and I have to thank Leighann from WithLoveLeighann who I’ve only just recently found in the Blogger Community, not sure how or why it took me so long, she is a lovely, friendly girl with passion and comedy to spare. Check out her blog and twitter @LeighannLeAnn

My Answers

  • What is the best comment, you have received about your blog/blogging, since you started. – I try to save all the comments I get so I had a couple to pick from. (Sadly I forgot to record who said what . . . )

screenshot_2018-05-29-15-04-58

  • If you could write about one thing ( that you haven’t yet) what would it be? Tough one because if I feel strongly about something I will write about it. I guess Parenting – Being a Daddy. That is the reason this blog started. I haven’t done it yet because I don’t have no child. But one day.

  • Where do you get your creative inspiration from? I struggle at times, I struggle to juggle work, spare time, blog time and life. So when I want to make something like this really big I need to big down deep to find something to push and make me focus. Creative just flows, I have always been a creative person – it’s just finding the drive to put those creative juices into action.

My Questions

  1. In the past 6 months what is one thing that has surprised you about yourself?
  2. What is the best life hack you have ever seen?
  3. If you could wake up tomorrow with the skills to play any sport or instrument what would it be and why?

My Nominations

Firstly who ever reads this, you are nominated. Doesn’t matter if your name is on the list or not, you are more picked. Feel free to take this and run with it.

Man Vs Movies – Top Five Comedy Films

Comments 4 Standard

fantasy

I used to have a job at a calendar factory but I got the sack because I took a couple of days off.

This week is Comedy week, you know those films that you can watch over and over again, regardless of the situation – get home drunk, sling this on, bored and feeling down, this is a go to pick. Comedies are the best genre that you can sling on for easy watching.

Image result for i love you man movie posterI Love you Man

SLAPPAA DA BASS!

This films follows Peter, a newly engaged estate agent who has to find a best man for his wedding. As a man with very few friends, Peter has some ups and downs until he finds the one! It features some Canadian rock n roll, some cheesy one liners and the Hulk.

AnchormanAnchorman

60% of the time, it works every time.

Following the number one news team in San Diego, Anchorman is a story of change and equality as the first female news anchor joins the team. Which does not go down well with the men in the current team. Which brings on a battle of the sexes.

Down as one of the most quotable movies

Tropic Thunder (2008)Tropic Thunder

I’m the dude, playing the dude, disguised as another dude.

A team of actors playing G.I.’s for a war movie are dropped into the wilderness for a sense a realism. Until they come across a real drug tribe. Still under the impression they are actors the team have to adapt and come to terms with the situation they are in.

Image result for shaun of the dead movie posterShaun of the Dead

Oh, she’s engaged. – That was quick.

A duo of normal working London lads wake up from a messy night to discover things aren’t what they were and there has been a Z-Word outbreak (we are not using the Z-Word), so fuelled by love, a want to survive and the opportunity to find a place to smoke they set off to collect family and friends as they head off to the pub (classic British attitude right).

The Hangover Movie PosterThe Hangover

It’s not a purse its a satchel Indiana Jones has one.

The one night guys love about wedding planning – the Stag Do and in this case, the lad’s head off to Vegas for a classy evening, steak dinner and a bit of gambling. But suddenly they wake up to find the hotel room trashed, no memory of what happened and the Groom missing. The group have to remember, investigate and find the groom to get back for the wedding.

Hilarity ensues.

I know all of these are pretty new, modern comedies but I just love them all – don’t get me wrong. I love the old school ones too; Brewster’s Millions, The Carry On Series, Trading Places, Airplane. Anything by Mel Brooks. But these ones just pipped it for me as a – I can watch anytime anywhere kind of thing.

What do you think? What is your go to comedy? What makes you chuckle?

Man Vs Movies – Top Five Thrillers.

Comments 5 Standard

Thrillers

No one is safe, no one is trusted, nothing is what it seems.

This week its Thriller week! There isn’t a single MJ tribute act in sight. Just Me, You, Five Films and a feeling of confusion as you struggle to understand what is going on and your adrenaline begins pumping.

Shall we begin?

Image result for memento posterMemento

“Remember Sammy Jenkins”

This one seems to slip under people’s radar and I can’t for the life of me work out why. It’s an amazing film put together by Christopher (Dark Knight) Nolan and is backed up with the incredible talent of Guy (You know his face) Pearce.

The Narrative of the film plays in two lines, jumping back and forth from either timeline. Due to the nature of the film this style works ridiculously well.

It follows a man who can’t store short-term memories ever since the night he was attacked and his wife murdered. But determined to find the killer he sets out on the hunt, aided with notes, photos and tattoo’s – he is against all odds, not knowing what is truth or a lie and not being able to trust his own mind will he have closure.

It’s a superb, smart, gritty film that after one watch will have you hooked and ready for a second viewing.

Shutter Island PosterShutter Island

“You’re smarter than you look, Marshall. That’s probably not a good thing.”

Now I think a lot of people have mixed feelings on this film, with the own interpretation of the ending. Which can be said about all of these movies as thrillers and twists can be very subjective.

This film follows a US Marshal investigating a missing persons case on a remote secluded Island that is home to a Psychiatric Hospital. As they get to the island as storm sets in, leaving him and his partner stranded on the Island for a few days.

Paranoia sets in as the pair try to uncover the truth as to what happened to the missing woman, mixed with uncooperative staff members, crazy patiences and the elements beating them back. The case becomes harder and harder until the final act where the storm breaks and so does the case. What happened to the woman?

I think it’s a great rollercoaster and has some great twists, based on the German Existential Horror Movie – The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. The film oozes the same creepy noir style that will leave you a little scared and confused.

Related imagePrisoners

“Pray for the best, but prepare for the worst.”

Prisoners really hits home with some people because it plays on one of people’s biggest fears – something happening to their children. In this two young girls go missing after a joint family meal for Thanksgiving, it follows the Detective on the case and the four parents all dealing with it in different ways.

It’s highlights man’s nature to try to rationalise everything, while also showing the nature to do whatever it takes to protect family.

As the spiders web of twists and turns continues to get darker and deeper the family and Detective are put into the ring and have to overcome so much to get an answer. Resulting in the final answer, the ending result and the outcome.

With an amazing cast which I have to praise Jackman and Gyllenhaal for their performances. The film stands out and if you haven’t seen it you really should. I can’t rate it enough.

Image result for nocturnal animals movie posterNocturnal Animals

“When you love someone you have to be careful with it, you might never get it again.”

Looks like Mr Gyllenhaal is popping back up on the list – maybe he does too many Thrillers, or maybe I really rate him. The second I think.

This film I missed at the cinema and was really gutted I had, after watching it I was mesmerized by it. It’s a strangely beautiful film which in some respects blurs the lines between reality and fiction. Following an Art Gallery owner as she reads her Ex-Husbands Novel dedicated to her. The story starts to hit home as she started to notice similarities between the novel, the characters and their own broken relationship.

I can’t say much more as it get very complex and I worry spoiling something, but I will say stay focused, stay aware of everything, what is real and what is the novel. And also who is who.

It’s dark, it’s complex, its exiting, I love it. But good luck.

ALSO COMPLETELY FORGOT – I can’t praise this film without mentioning Michael Shannon. Such a talent, this film shows he’s abilities down to a T and you will not be disappointed.

Fancy Fancy Dress

Comments 8 Standard

I have decided to throw a bit of a fun post out.

Just to keep you smiling as this week drags on. I feel you need a Humph and some motivation to get to the weekend and hopefully this will draw a little smile out and for a moment be a saving grace.

. . . sometimes I truly just waffle on don’t I.

Let’s talk about Fancy Dress.

Honestly I don’t know about you, but I am a sucker for a chance to dress up and I don’t hold back. If I’m doing it – I am doing it right. Maybe I should do it professionally or help other people – which I can do, took the challenge to help my friend get a full costume within a couple of hours of a party for as cheap as possible. Nailed it!

10156173092895582.jpg

My all time favourite costume that I have done is the above. The Invisible Man. It was hot and warm but paid off when I would walk past people and they would gasp in awe and praise me for an amazing effort. This was Halloween 2015 – a night in town. Wearing a dressing gown, who was really loving life. Thankfully I didn’t get ID’ed anywhere. That would have been fun.

Other dress ups include; The Nun from the Conjuring for Halloween ’16, a wasteland raider for Halloween ’17, The Swedish Chef for Eurovision ’17, A Gun toting Spaniard for Eurovision ’16 and a Leprechaun for Eurovision ’15 (but if you remember rightly – Ireland didn’t make it to the final, so I had to tweak the full leprechaun costume that I had put together, adding a prisoners hat and shackles I adopted the guise of an Irish immigrant prisoner that had been sent to Australia. Not bad hey)

I’ve also done Doc Brown for a charity office event. There is an OAP snap in the middle somewhere from a night at Uni, the same with the Smurf and a Zombie Geek (posing passed out on the loo, but not actually passed out) and also The Hulk which took a lot of time and planning. Body paint isn’t a quick job – but boy it sure was fun.

I would love to know what you have dressed up as, send me your best. Also let me know what you think to my efforts. Let’s be honest you are so inviting me to your next fancy dress party aren’t you.

Much love!

Man Vs Movies – Top Five Sci-Fi Films

Comments 4 Standard

Scifi

Greeting Bloglings – I am Ssor from the planet ManVsAdulthood.

I am here to observes and learn from your ways. Hey wanna see my spaceship?

So today’s post is about the genre of Science Fiction. Which is one of those genres what I think could go one of two ways. Also when you sit down and truly think about what is in the genre the list becomes longer and longer with every second. So I have tried my hardest to narrow it down to five.

Back to the Future. Image result for back to the future poster

The staple of any Sci-Fi list, a time travel movie that has made the ranks of the “Classic” category time and time and time and time again – wait how many times, it’s all over the place.

The film showcased the adventures of a teen thrown back in time and struggling to find a way back. There is Rock n Roll, Skateboards, Groovy Dance Moves and a tonne of Manure. This film is such a simple feel good movie, as much as they cover the ability to time travel and the effects of changing things in the pass they don’t dwell on the side effects faced by someone traveling through time and space (if there is any) – the franchise spans a trilogy and in my eyes they were all amazing!

If you are in the mood for an easy-going Sunday afternoon with a Sci-Fi twist. This is the one for you.

The Thing. Image result for the thing poster

Open to debate as to which Genre it falls into – Sci-Fi or Horror. I would say both but predominantly Sci-Fi due to the nature of the threat . . . or The Thing.

Following a group of researchers in Antarctica who discover a Norwegian research base that is abandoned, filled with dead bodies and a looming fear of in the middle of nowhere something is after them. The tension, story and acting is all superb. What clearly started as a simple little film instantly becomes a hit. Even the ending leave you thinking – what’s next.

Side note – the made a prequel in 2011 that followed the Norwegians and built up to this film. Which I felt held up and worked so well as a taster for this movie.

Terminator 2: Judgement Day. Image result for terminator 2 poster

If the conversation crops up of “Sequels are never as good as the original” – I go straight to this piece. T2 is in my opinion hands down the best Terminator movie out there.

It has Arnie carrying a minigun, a bad guy made of liquid metal and Linda Hamilton all ripped and badass totting a shotgun. It opens the Skynet world up a bit more, giving dimension and depth to certain aspects. Yes it goes without saying there are cheesy bits in it still (Thumbs Up) but those moments aside it’s a brilliant telling of a time traveling robot and his mission.

As far as Sci-Fi goes, the time travel local is incredibly flawed and the plot holes are wide enough to fall into, but that doesn’t take anything away from the film itself.

Looper. Image result for looper poster

You might see a trend going on here. I do love a good Time Travel film and Looper ticks that box with a massive TICK. Set in a future where the world has gone a bit to pot, but importantly even in this world time travel has yet to be invented. But some 30 years from that point it has. So in the future mobs dispose of bodies by sending them back to the now. Where agents called “Loopers” kill them and effectively erase the person from the future.

This is all well and good until Joe (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) goes off to work only to find out the person sent back for him to kill is an older version of himself played by my man (Bruce Willis).

They tackle time travel really well and there is even a scene where an old version of another looper is being hunted and scars start to appear on him as the mob start attacking his younger self. Very clever stuff. The film as a whole as an original feel to it but also highlights some very key life points and lessons and human nature.

Inception. Image result for inception poster

The final entry for the Sci-Fi list is Inception. A tale of dreams within dreams within more dreams. The concept is stunningly simple and the layers of the film add up for an entertaining watch. The film follows Cobb and his team as they are blackmailed by a businessman into Incepting a rival business tycoon.

Incepting or the process of Inception is to put someone to sleep, enter their dreams and subconscious in order to plant an idea or extract information. But as the job goes on they reveal it won’t be as easy as they first thought.

Filled with spectacular scenes, visual effects and tense action sequences this film throws you about and leaves you with a slight dazed confusion as you wake up and end up back in the real world.

All in my eyes are great watches, if you haven’t seen them go check them out. If you have seen them what do you think?

Don’t forgot to check out my poll linked to this posts twitter on my ol’ twitter page.

How are these holding up, I know we are only on week two but what do you guys think? Any suggestions to change or do anything differently?

Much love!

Man Vs Movies: Top Five All Time Favourite Films

Comments 10 Standard

Copy of Insert Catchy Film Series Title

Greetings and Welcome to my new series, the wonderfully captivating and excellently funny “Man Vs Movies” and today’s topic – Top Five All Time Favourite Films.

I want to firstly thank everyone for suggesting names and ideas for this series. I ran a poll on twitter and “Man Vs Movies” took off and flew into the lead. I liked it, you liked it. So here we are!

I am also going to run a poll after posting the latest post to decide what genre to host the following week. I’ve also had a list of new topics and suggests from you lovely people, so they will be in the mix soon. I am really looking forward to this. I hope you are too and I can’t wait for more feedback and support.

Disclaimer on all the lists you will find and see in this series, they are subject to change. What makes the list today, might be cut in 6 months time, they are fluid and ever-growing. But the premise is the same and at time of posting the lists will be accurate. Also they are Top Fives but not in an order. It’s hard enough to whittle films down to five, let alone rank them afterwards.

Die Hard.die_hard.jpg

It’s Christmas Eve and humble policeman John is visiting his family in L.A. But the festivities are ruined when Hans and his gang of baddies crash the party. But John has every intention of saving Christmas and his Wife.

Anyone that knows me, knows this is my all time favourite film and also THE greatest Christmas film of all time. Yes it has it’s faults (Vest colours) but it also has everything you want in an action film. Cool one liners, great action scenes and the warm feeling of family at Christmas.

This film catapulted Bruce Willis into the Action Hero status he has today and what a guy he is.

Image result for brick movie posterBrick.

This film takes the magic and mystery of the Film Noir from the Golden Era of Cinema. But throws them into a modern high school environment. Imagine Humphrey Bogart skipping class and smoking on the football field. This film is that.

A very cleverly told story about a boy called Brendon who is looking for his missing girlfriend, he begins to unravel the dirty underworld of drugs and as he goes deeper down the rabbit hole more and more truths and horrors come out.

It stars the ever so talented Joseph Gordon Levitt and is directed by Rian Johnson who has gone on to do Star Wars and a few ep’s of Breaking Bad. It’s such a smart film that flew under the radar and really deserves a lot more attention and praise.

Fear and Loathing.Image result for fear and loathing in las vegas movie poster

This mad, wild, drug fuelled semi biographical film follows writer Hunter S. Thompson and his attorney as they travel from L.A to Las Vegas to cover a sporting event and end up getting super high and just pushing a mass bender as far as they can.

Johnny Depp fully immersed himself in the role. To the point where he befriend and lived with the Hunter for months to learn how to mimic his personality and mannerisms. It’s a strange little film that has poetic echos and undertones about the American Dream, society and the political status of the country. It might take a couple of watches to fully understand and appreciate the film but I highly rate it.

All you can do is “Buy the Ticket, Take the Ride” and enjoy the antics along the way. Imagine like an R rated version of the Hangover but with a lot more psychedelic drugs, a circus and a lobby full of reptiles.

Pulp Fiction Movie PosterPulp Fiction.

Say WHAT again I dare you, I double dare you!

This should be no surprise to anyone, this is probably on everyone’s Top Five list. It’s an instant classic from the bizarre mind of Tarantino. It’s hard to explain what the film is about as it runs several storylines over a non linear narrative but it just works so well.

Everything about it screams amazing, from the script and dialogue, to the soundtrack and the actors involved. It’s one of those films that has it all and doesn’t hold back. Covering topics like drugs, boxing, gangsters and hillbillies, this film doesn’t hold back. It’s truly the five dollar shake of the milkshake world.

Room (2015 film).pngRoom.

The final entry is relatively new in comparison, not to be mistaken for “The Room” (the worst movie ever made – officially) but “Room” follows the story of a Girl, Joy / Ma, who is kidnapped and held captive for seven years in this single box room. Where her captor fathers a son and when we first meet him he is five.

The first half of the film is set purely in the room. Following Jack the son, as this is all he knows, he has never been outside, never seen the ocean, never seen a dog in real life. The second half follows the two captives readjusting to the real world, the ordeals and struggles they face as Joy tries to normalise and Jack tries to understand this new world.

It’s a fantastic story that covers so many different emotional points and social points. With both Brie Larson and Jacob Tremblay giving amazing top-notch, oscar award-winning performances. It’s not light-hearted but very much worth the watch. I promise.

How does my Top 5 hold up? Any you haven’t seen? Any you don’t agree with? What is your top five? I’d love to know.

How did this post go? Fun? I hope so. Check out the poll on my twitter to decide the next topic.

Peace!

SUNSHINE BLOGGER AWARD

Comments 5 Standard

So today feels like a day of awards. I had not long posted The Neat Blogger Award found HERE. When the ever so delightful Abbie tagged me in this.

Now I am not one to let my loyal lovely followers and fans down. So here we are again. Typing up another award (I love it, these are the best). You might have noticed the timeline doesn’t match up. That award was on Tuesday and it is now . . . not Tuesday (unconfirmed what day I will be posting). That is because I didn’t want to Saturate the market as it were. Keeping you all guessing, wanting more.

Shall we begin.

It was a lousy afternoon at work, the skies were grey and the air warm and humid. Suddenly a notification flew into my Twitter box. I had been mentioned in a Tweet by @WhatAbbieSays – Thank you for that lovely! Here is here Award if you want to find out more about here. Hit HERE now!

If you do not follow her then we need words, sit down, gather round and let me tell you about our heroine Abbie. Who can be found over on “What Abbie Says” she is such an; awesome, sassy, caring, amazing, lovely girl who supports everyone, doesn’t sugar coat it and then enjoys a cheeky Gin and Tonic when the day is done. I can’t remember how we met, but it can’t have been too long ago as I’ve only been here less than a year. But it feels like I have known her for years. I am going to move on now in worry that this starts to shape up into a soppy love letter or estranged fan mail letter.

  • List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award logo in your post and/or on your blog site.

The Questions

Why did you start your blog?

This started with the idea of being a Parenting Blog, from the fathers point of view – as I feel the ratio of Mothers to Fathers blogs is in favour of the ladies. But as I have no actual child or the idea of having one yet, I decided to set up a blog about Adulthood and me growing up becoming old and dealing with crap. Then by the time the children come along this blog with be up and running.

Pineapple on a pizza? Yay or nay?

Ooh controversial question – probably not going to like my answer. But damn son I love the Pineapple, on pizza, on chicken burgers, on gammon. It’s sweet, sour, juicy – what is not to love. Keep the pineapple going strong.

If you could turn any activity into an Olympic sport, what would you have a good chance at winning medal for?

This will sound soppy as SIN but I have always been told it, for like years, I give THE best hugs. Bring it on I would take home the gold.

What would you have for your dream three course dinner?

Now this might change but right now; Halloumi Fries with Chilli Jam, a beast of a Sirloin Steak (Rare) and to finish, a plain and simply tasty Vanilla Cheesecake. Not too shabby hey.

If you had unlimited funds to build a house that you would live in for the rest of your life, what would the finished house be like?

Now I am not greedy, I don’t need mansions or helipads. But you know the America Family Homes you see in films, where the Mom and Pop have the kids and grand kids over for Christmas dinner. The large open plan kitchen, dinning room, maybe two living rooms. Upstairs maybe four double bedrooms, a study, walk in wardrobes. The large bathroom with two sinks as the master bathroom. Double garage, large garden, decking area with outdoor furniture and a big BBQ grill.

Maybe it is sounding borderline mansion like, but I just want to be able to always host and have people stay. Y’all can come visit!

Are you usually early or late?

Early. It’s a big pet peeve being late. Sadly my GF has terrible time management and it drives me up the wall.

What would be your ideal way to spend the weekend?

Friday Night. Takeaway Pizza – Couple of Movies.

Saturday. Lounge, maybe a spot of shopping (in my favour though, none of this being dragged round Primark and Next for hours upon end, no sir), some Playstation. Then to a bar for a few drinks with some friends.

Sunday. A lay in, bacon and egg sandwich, then chilling with some binge TV or films. Just some chilled time.

What is something you think everyone should do at least once in their lives?

Make a list of 30 Before 30. It’s eye-opening, challenge yourself.

How different was your life one year ago?

The blog, less than a year old. It’s been a whirlwind and I love it. It has given me a place to express myself and meet some awesome people.

What is something that your friends would consider “so you”?

Hmm; I’d love to say my charm or comical genius. But it would probably be my film knowledge and intelligence – wow that sounded arrogant. But yeah film knowledge and actors is off the chain – Ross would know this, or Ross could tell you that.

I hope that’s the right answer, now I think about it is that “So Me”

If someone narrated your life, who would you want to be the narrator?

I would have to go with someone like Michael Caine or James Earl Jones – though I don’t think my life is exciting for his booming voice. Maybe Brian Blessed.

My Questions For You.

  • If you could see any Band or Musician that has sadly passed away who would you see?
  • What are your thoughts on Avocados?
  • What is your biggest pet peeve?
  • Would you rather have no hands or no feet?
  • We are going to form a band, what position would take?
  • What is the most influential quote you have in memory?
  • Which is scarier, Space or the Depths of the Ocean, and why?
  • What are your thoughts on the scandalous “Reality” TV shows, such as MADE IN blah blah or Real Housewives of who knows-where?
  • Morecambe and Wise or Two Ronnie’s?
  • If you could hang out with any Kids TV Character from your childhood who would it be?
  • What Animal would you be most excited to see at the Zoo?

Nominations.

This is the bit I dislike because it takes ages for me to decide who to tag (I want to tag you all) and then I have to find your info and remember to tag you in the tweet. But let’s go!

  1. Joanne over at Winging Mama-Hood
