My Pick Me Up Playlist.

Comments 14 Standard

They say that Music is the great healer. Music covers every mood and thought, bringing inspiration or motivation to any situation.

This is my Pick Me Up Playlist that the amazingly smart and super funny Elizabeth tagged me in. This is her post and this is her Insta – I strongly recommend following her.

Rules for the Pick Me Up Playlist Challenge:

  • Mention how music helps your Mental Health
  • List 10 songs that you would consider to be a part of your ‘Pick Me Up Playlist’ (optional: mention a little bit why each song is on your list)
  • Tag the blogger who nominated you
  • Link back to ‘Pick Me Up Playlist’ creator – Laura Spoonie
  • Tag 10 other bloggers to join in with the ‘Pick Me Up Playlist’ Challenge

I am a strong believer of music being the cure for everything. The effects it has can be so beneficial to mental health, there is also a song or a band that will help you through any mood or situation. If you cry, they cry. You laugh, they laugh. Music is so pure and fluid it can mean and be anything you want.

My Pick Me Up Playlist

  • Ballroom Blitz – Sweet.
    • My Ultimate get psyched song. If I am ever in need of a buzz or I’m in a get the day going kind of mood. This gem works wonders.
  • Paradise by the Dashboard Light – Meatloaf.
    • Well there is Rock Opera Ballard’s and then there is this masterpiece. 6 minutes of life you never regret and are almost half tempted to repeat the song. The song tells the story of a couple at make out point getting it on. It’s very smart and so much fun.
  • I Fought the Law – The Clash.
    • This song always reminds me of sitting in the library at college with my best friend. There is a video somewhere of me miming this song with full air guitar and drums. Just good times really.
  • We Are Young – Fun.
    • I remember this tune being big Summer 2012 as I just started a new job and this was constantly on the radio. It’s an upbeat sing along with heart and passion that always bring a smile to my face.
  • California Soul – Marlena Shaw.
    • This song taps into my southern soul vibe, attempting to cover the accent as I belt it out. It just a happy fun tune.
  • Human – Rag’n’Bone Man.
    • This is a real motivational get pumped tune. They used it for the Jack Ryan trailer and since then has been a boost in my head. A strong voice, stronger lyrics and a kick ass beat.
  • Disco 2000 – Pulp.
    • I am a fan of all ranges of music, but there is something about the older generation of music that really sticks. Modern music doesn’t cut it like this list and Disco 2000 is an amazing sing along song for me.
  • You Make My Dreams Come True – Hall And Oates.
    • Now yes this might remind you of the hyper-real scene from (500) Days of Summer which signifies the couple having sex but that aside it’s still a really upbeat song with a cool rift to jive too.
  • Killer Queen – Queen.
    • I could have picked any Queen song – they are all perfect but I have picked this because my GF loves it and we sing it about her. If this one doesn’t get you pumped I am not sure what will.
  • Give Me Novacaine – Green Day.
    • Green Day for me are THAT band – no matter the mood or time I can always listen to them and there is always a song that is fit for the occasion. They have helped me through a lot and have always been there for me.

Though this is the part of the post I am not a fan of, tagging people. Cause I have to decide out of the hundreds of you amazing people who to tag. Then I have to take all your details, copy and paste it and then pow. It’s long winded cause I always forget usernames and handles. Wish me luck.

I want to see the following tackle this:

Tiffany. Britt K. Seonaid. Cara. Carly. Kate. Hannah. Johnny. Matt. Siobhan.

Avengers: Endgame. Is this it?

Comments 13 Standard

Another thing that I love about Super Bowl Sunday is the amount of movie trailers and teasers that get aired during the ad breaks and half time show. It’s like a geeky gold mine and this year was no exception. Showcasing a 30 second tease for both Captain Marvel & Avengers Endgame.

“Some people move on, but not us!”

This line echos chills down your spine as Steve “Captain America” Rogers drops a sentimental statement regarding the lost comrades.

The 30 second TV spot adds to the 2 and a half minutes of footage that we have already seen, showing the remains of the team on Earth and what can only be described as their ways of coping with the aftermath of the “Snap”. New York looks abandoned and empty as we pan across several scenic night shots. Cap is in some kind of self help group meeting that suggests the “Snap” was a long time ago and people are struggling to come to terms with their loss and the rest of the featured members look broken and affected in certain ways.

We also see a lot of walking in this spot trailer, which might seem trivial but asks the questions, what are they walking to, what is the purpose? Especially the team lineup at Avengers HQ.

Assembled one last time, One final mission.

Thor and Rocket seem to go on yet another little field trip, with what looks like Thanos’ farm being their final destination which poses the question – Have they found him? Why have they gone alone? If this is right it shows great character development for Rocket who spent Infinity War actively avoiding Thanos at all costs and for him to now be going head on into the Mad Titan’s home suggests to me that losing Groot has affected him in a really bad way.

Grief can take many forms and affect people in different ways; Steve talking and dealing with things in group therapy, Thor and Rocket going off to seek something, be it Answers or Revenge, while Black Widow has seemed to have used training to keep focused as we see her unload an ammo clip into a paper target while wearing what I would assume to be a sports vest which adds to my thinking of her throwing herself into training and staying on edge ready for whatever’s to come.

Finally there is also a glimpse of Tony and Nebula repairing something in the spacecraft. Which if tied into the first trailer could be seen as one final push to survive, or could the start of a failed attempt that leaves Tony lacking food and oxygen as he calls Pepper.

With Time being such a big element to this movie there is no way to know or fully understand the timeline of footage until we see the final product. That being said the MCU is becoming known for their deceptive trailers. All those shots we saw in the Infinity War trailer that never appeared in the final film for example. Could this be the same thing? Are we watching duff footage, is this a plot to pull the wool over our eyes and avoid major spoilers?

I am so excited for the next few months and what the MCU is bringing out; Captain Marvel, Spider-Man: Far From Home and The Avengers Endgame. This one will be a biggy. It could be time to sadly say goodbye to some much-loved characters who have graced our screen for over ten years. The franchise is huge and has such a big cultural standing in today’s modern age. I am sure whatever they do, however they deal with it – it will be done with the utmost respect and care. As a studio they understand and appreciate the fans, they won’t look to do the fans out of a result.

What do you think to the latest spot? What do you think will happen and how will you react to it? I expect tears.

If by some miracle you haven’t seen the trailer here it is.

Five things you might not know about me…

Comments 39 Standard

After being tagged in this by Helen over on “Social Matters and Natters” I spent the longest time wracking my brains wondering what on earth I could share with you, the stuff you might not know. The problem is I am such an open book that I am not sure what you already know and what you don’t.

So while I work that list out, why don’t you go and check Helen’s blog out, she covers a selection of topics, from Marketing and Brands, to life, to the joys of snail mail. Well worth a follow.

Image result for nick miller aging gifI have always felt like I have an old personality in a young body. I am not sure if it’s my morals and outlooks that seems outdated and old now days. Or it’s based on the old movies I used to watch. But I just feel there is a right and wrong way about things and in modern times they could seem very old.

Image result for my biggest fear gifGoing Blind is one of my biggest fears, I am such a visual person, my love of movies, photography and a nice sunset. When I first needed glasses I was struck with a horrific headache and sore eyes that I realised my worst fear is going blind. (Even gaining Daredevil Powers wouldn’t help compensate)

Image result for hot fuzz red or white gifWhen I am older I would love to own and run a country pub or B&B. I think it’s a real end game job. Somewhere down south, probably Cornwall area – beautiful part of the country down there.

Image result for eurotrip gifDuring my young teen years I was involved in a Cultural Exchange project with a group of Hungarians. I learnt a lot about myself on those trips, met some friends for life and did some unbelievable things. Travelling around the rural countryside of North Hungry also had it’s scary moments.

Well there we go, that is my list. Did you know any of them things? This post was tough, a really struggled to find interesting but unknown facts about me. I hope you liked it.

I want to see Emma, Matt and Siobhan give this a go. Come on down people. Give everyone mentioned in this a follow, they are all amazing and wonderful people.

Thanks!

Golden Globes – The Review.

Comments 4 Standard

Award season has truly got under way and last night Beverly Hills hosted the Golden Globes, an award set to praise and recognise talent in both Film & Television. With this in mind it means the Oscars are about 6 weeks away. The only difference really is who decides the winners. The Globes are chosen by the Press office and the Oscars picked by the Academy of Motion Picture, Art and Science.

The Golden Globes don’t have as many categories compared to the Oscars but it hosts the major ones such as; Best Motion Picture – Drama, Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, Best Actor & Actress in both Drama and Musical / Comedy, Best Screenplay, Original Song, Director and many more.

I am going to breakdown a handful of categories and give some feedback on what I think about the selection and the outcome. Please note as much as I am a film buff / geek. There are films mentioned that I have not seen. Which I will try not to let affect my feedback.

Best Motion Picture – Drama.

best drama

Great start to this, having only seen 3 of the 5 nominated films. I have not seen BlacKKKlansman or If Beale Street Could Talk. Which is a shame. I really wanted to catch BlacKKKlansman and felt it might have been a hidden gem. Which I guess it was. Beale Street I have never heard of so best go find a copy of that. Now the ones I know, As much as I am a BIG MCU fan (What me? Who knew?), I didn’t rate Black Panther as highly as the critics or other fans. It’s a good film but in the running with these I feel like it’s out of its depth.

Now to the big two; A Star is Born and Bohemian Rhapsody. I loved them both. Even reviewing BoRap which can be found HERE – shamefully I never reviewed A Star is Born which I regret now. Both of these were amazing films and I am happy to see either or win. Though I think deep down A Star is Born deserved the win a tiny bit more, I am not mad at the choice.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama.

best actress

Across the board I rate all of these Actresses bar Melissa McCarthy. Her brand of comedy and style really annoys me. But that aside the film she is Nominated for “Can You Ever Forgive Me?” looks good. Being a true story drama piece it might change my mind of her.

In honesty I have only seen Lady Gaga’s performance, which was breathtaking, so I am slightly disheartened that she did not win. But knowing how talented the competition was I can imagine Close’s performance must have been off the chain and I bet this award is well deserved.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy.

best actor com

I wanted to controversially mention this category as an excuse to air some feelings I have. Which I KNOW will be met with some heat, anger and disapproval. But here we go.

Lin-Manuel Miranda. I don’t know what it is but I don’t like how hyped he is, how you are expected to like and appreciate this man out of nowhere. Don’t get me wrong the Moana music was good and I really want to watch Hamilton, but I just feel like he is overrated and I am almost forced to like him for some unknown reason. It might be me subconsciously wanting to not like him because he is the next big thing all of a sudden. Who knows I can’t put my finger one it – Sorry. Rant over.

The category – I am very excited to see both Stan & Ollie and Vice. But all four of the remaining men are brilliant performers in their own right. So I can imagine this one was a tough call. Also I thought Redford was retiring? Maybe I missed something.

  Other Awards.

Rami Malek took the Best Actor (Drama) from Bradley Cooper with his Freddie Mercury portrayal. Which well done – but Cooper was phenomenal. Though the Oscars are on their way Bradders. The same goes for Best Director – as a debut film Cooper nailed it in my eyes but lost it to Alfonso Cuaron who I had to google to see what else he had done . . . not sure I can agree after looking at this IMDB page but what do I know compared to the LA Press.

Olivia Colman took Best Actresses in Musical or Comedy (not sure about this title) for The Favourite which must be well deserved, I have always rated for as an actress.

Richard Madden won for the Bodyguard in Best TV Drama Actor and Sandra Oh won the Actress version for Killing Eve (which I keep meaning to start). Rachel Brosnahan grabbed Best Comedy Actress for The Marvelous Mrs Maisel – which if you have not seen I beg you to go home tonight and start. I love it.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse swung into the top spot for Best Animated Motion Picture (seeing it tomorrow night). Everyone I know that has seen it has urged me to go – saying it’s the best thing ever. The Americans picked up Best TV Drama and The Kominsky Method took Best TV Comedy.

Lastly I want to mention Best Original Song – Shallow from A Star is Born, which won this hands down. And too bloody right. It was the 22nd most downloaded single of 2018 – which to say it only came out in October shows how much it took the world by storm. I can’t not listen to it when it’s on. It’s beautiful.

Next stop BAFTA’s and then the big boys, the Oscars! The nominations are released at the end of the month where I will do a post placing my bets . . . while maybe placing a bet or two.

What do you think to the Golden Globe results? Do you think someone missed out or was robbed? Like I said I am in mixed emotions, feeling bad for A Star is Born but happy for Bohemian Rhapsody. But let’s see what happens next.

Blogmas Day 11 – A Letter To Yourself About The Year.

Comments 8 Standard

I found this idea and thought it might be very insightful and fun to write and even read.

Dear Ross.

It’s that magical time of year again – Christmas. We love it so much don’t we. I just wanted to write a few words to remind you of what a year you have had and just to remember at this time of year we are meant to be forgiving, thankful and full of joy.

It’s been a big year in regards to the 30 before 30 list – ticking a lot of things off it.

An all-inclusive holiday in May to Benidorm – that was so much fun. A music festival in September and then Buying a House. You are now a homeowner. Scary right. This time last year you would never have thought any of those three things would be on the horizon let alone ticked off the list.

There has been sad moments too, a funeral, a bad memory full of tears and just general life’s ups and downs. But that has made you stronger, more determined and passionate. Next year is a new adventure, you know it’s time to find a new job, sort finances out and just be more prepared for a rainy day. But there is no rush for anything. Hey kids might even be next on the list . . . did I say that out loud. Good Luck!

You celebrated a year anniversary on the blog with your awesome following. The people who read this and float about on Twitter are just brilliant. Keep it up. One day you will make this blogging thing work full-time. Everyone starts somewhere.

So here is to next year, to the new adventures and the new memories we are going to make.

Take care, enjoy the festive season, be happy and share the love.

Now let’s have some photos of these memories. Imagine Green Day’s Time of your Life playing in the background.

Peace and Love.

Ross.

Blogmas Day 7 – Gifts for Him

Comments 2 Standard

With two and a half weeks to the big day I worry some of you might be worried, wondering what do I get my boyfriend, dad or strange colleague that I drew in Secret Santa?

Well have no fear – I am here! With my handy guide to Gift buying for Him.

This post should be really easy, it is basically going to be a wish list of things I want masked in an attempt to help you out. (But also if anyone I know is stuck for gifts for me . . . here we go)

Gift One.

Funko Pops.

1538397257091.jpg

If you, the love of your life or that special family member is anything like me (a big ole Geek) then what is not to love about Funko Pops. They are the best stocking filler gift going. A great shout for any fan and the range they cater for is now massive. From Films to T.V. shows, to Disney, to Musicians, to the Royal Family.

Though also if you are like me, then you might be somewhat particular about the collection you have, so shop with caution.

Gift Two.

Grooming Products.

img_20181006_125426_636

Us men need some TLC at times too and what better way to do that with a nice grooming gift set. Recently I started using Black Leopard Skincare line of grooming products and haven’t looked back since. Their range stretches from Face Scrubs to Hair Gel, eye cream to shaving cream and even a lovely moisturiser. What is better than having your man, dad or brother feel fresh and smell good. A bit of self-care and loving it always needed and what better excuse, especially at Christmas.

Gift Three.

Google Home.

This little gem will always hit my guide list and I don’t even own one! This is more of just a want from me. But the more I research the more I wish I could get one. For the techies that want to live their Iron Man JARVIS house dream – this is the start. One day I imagine having a Smart House and a house tablet that can control the whole building. With the ability to answer questions, play music, control the heating and lights. The possibilities will be endless.

Gift Four.

Aviation Gin.

Aviation Gin 70cl

A bottle of something is always a nice gift, especially with the classy quirky boxes and gift sets they come in. If Gin is not his tipple (it’s mine) then why not something else. But I’ve added Aviation because it’s made by Ryan Reynolds. I don’t mean he is making home-brew in his bathtub. But he founded the company and it’s a gin I have always wanted to try.

Gift Four.

Playstation Icon Sign.

Now for something a little geeky. This light is perfect for the players! A quirky nod to the PlayStation’s controller buttons will bring light to any gaming setup. As long as we didn’t start the debate as to which console is better Playstation vs XBox we’ll be ok . . . *cough* PS4 *cough*

Gift Five.

Sports Team Shirt.

Mens Houston Texans JJ Watt Nike Navy Blue Game Jersey

This one is for the sporty guy in your life, the lad, dad or striker. Sporting merchandise is always a great shout when it comes to gifts. As long as you know their team. The image is the Houston Texans Jersey which can be found along with other teams and merch over on Fanatic Shop. But if NFL isn’t their thing, they do football, rugby or even F1.

In my bathroom at home we have a handful of rubber ducks with the Norwich City emblem on them. Usually the teams own store has some wonderfully quirky and cool gifts. Take a look.

I hope this handy little guide has helped, let me know if you use it or what you are getting instead.

Blogmas Day 6 – T.V. Specials

Comment 1 Standard

Hello my festive pretties, today we are talking about T.V Christmas Specials because who doesn’t like watching TV on Christmas Day.

Part of the Christmas Day tradition usually involves slumped on the sofa nursing a food baby, partially comatose and watching some T.V. special. Now not reading the T.V. Guide this year I am not sure what there is to entice us all in. From recent years I’ve felt the main top dogs (BBC and ITV) have lacked something special and we have had to move over to the likes of GOLD (or whatever it’s called nowadays) and Dave for a bit of real entertainment. That being said here is my list of Christmas T.V. Specials that I really enjoy and always almost get watched over the festive season.

Gavin and Stacey – The Christmas Special.

What an entry to start with, a festive fun emotional episode which deals with the two families sharing Christmas together, Gavin breaking the news to his side about him moving to Wales and the classy Band Aid cover. It’s just an all-round warm fuzzy episode that is easy going and perfect for that food coma you put yourself in. Giving a realistic look at an average household Christmas; talking about Noel Edmonds, enjoying a festive dinner and have a little tiff with the estranged family members. I for one love it I do!

Only Fools and Horses – If They Could See Us Now.

Next must-see viewing or classic memory of Christmas T.V. Special would have to be Only Fools – after a good run there were a few episodes to pick from, but I settled on this one. It starts with the Trotters on holiday in Monaco living the cushy lifestyle – but that lasts minutes and they are back at Nelson Mandela House. Then after a bit more heartfelt Christmas esque love, ole Del Boy ends up on a game show thinking he can make his millions back – pure gold. As well as the episode itself the show generated the accolade of “BBC’s Most Viewed Television Programme of the Decade” – with an approximately 21.3 Million tuning in to watch it. – Crazy right, clearly they were doing something right.

Morecambe and Wise – Any Show or Compilation.

Anyone that knows me will know that I love this comedic duo so much – the phrase “They don’t make ’em like they used to” is so real and appropriate with this duo. Classic wholesome family fun using a smooth mix of acting, comedy, dancing and singing to make the perfect comedy duo. It always seems like a festive go to watch as well –  I promise you somewhere on the box someone will be showing an episode of this pair and laughter will ensue.

FRIENDS – The One With The Holiday Armadillo

Last but not least I can’t go without mentioning FRIENDS – again with a handful to pick from I have chosen the Holiday Armadillo. In an attempt to teach his son about his Jewish heritage, Ross tries to dress up as Santa and encourage Ben (his son) to take an interest – the only problem being, he can’t find a Santa costume anywhere. . . leaving him to improvise and become the Holiday Armadillo. It’s a cute yet still comical episode about the Maccabees and the lighting of the Menorah. Comedy comes flying back in when Chandler manages to find a Santa suit in an attempt to help Ross, while Joey goes the other way and bursts in dressed as Superman. It’s a festive fun episode that is such easy watching you will laugh every time.

I hope you have enjoyed my list of festive Christmas T.V. Specials, let me know what you love to watch and the must-see shows you always put on over the Christmas period.

 Much love.
