Struggling to think of what to do for the final few days of Blogmas, I stumbled across Nicole’s Blogmas Tag and fell in love. Check hers out over HERE. Now let’s get in the festive spirit and make some magic.

Image result for christmas blog

1. What is your favourite Christmas film?

Die Hard! But I love so many – as you can see from the previous post.

2. Have you ever had a White Christmas?

I want to say yes, when I was younger. But I can’t recall it properly. Now days it’s more likely to see a White Easter in England.

3. Where do you usually spend your holiday?

The past few years I have spent it with the GF’s family, as she has young sisters who still have that youthful magical look at Christmas

4. What is your favourite Christmas song?

Fairytale of New York by The Pogues. Proper Drunk Christmas Sing-A-Long Song

5. Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?

No, I always wanted to as excitement would kick as a kid. But it never happened and now it’s not a tradition I am on board with.

6. Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer?

Ho Ho Ho what a challenge – No Googling. Rudolph, Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Donna, Blitzen, Vixen, Cupid, Comet.

7. What holiday traditions are you looking forward to most this year?

The Office Christmas Party! Lazy Sundays in PJ’s watching Christmas Films, a festive beer on Christmas Eve and tasty meal with the loved ones on Christmas Day. . . . oh and the traditional Christmas Day Nap in the afternoon.

8. Is your Christmas tree real or fake?

Fake, I do love a real tree, but I do not love the maintenance, cleaning and upkeep that comes with them.

9. What is your all-time favourite holiday food/sweet treat?

Oooh tough one. Sweet I would say Festive Friends – which are basically mini chocolate digestive biscuit bites. Savoury I would have to say Pigs in Blankets.

10. Be honest: do you like giving gifts or receiving gifts better?

I love to give! I can usually nail gifts for people – going down the meaningful route. Care Packages are my forte, so easy to put together but can be incredibly meaningful. Though I do like getting gifts I struggle with facial expressions and so even if I love the gift and have wanted it for ages I still sometimes pull a “Meh, unamused” face. Which is not intentional at all.

11. What is the best Christmas gift you’ve ever received?

In my teens I got a Drum Kit. Which was AWESOME!

12. What would be your dream place to visit for the holiday season?

I would love to do New York at Christmas. I love the city but can imagine at Christmas it’s just the best place ever.

13. Are you a pro-present wrapper, or do you fail miserably?

Back in my day I was known for expertly wrapping several gifts, including a 4 pack of beer while in a passenger seat of a car speeding down some country lanes. I am a pro wrapper.

14. Most memorable Holiday moment?

I think either, a surprise Birthday trip to London and Winter Wonderland last year. Or a few years back going out on Christmas Eve and getting so drunk while doing karaoke in the sleepy little village I grew up in.

15. What made you realize the truth about Santa?

The truth? That there is a jolly old fat man in the North Pole bringing joy to people every year. That’s what you mean right.

16. Do you make New Year’s resolutions? Do you stick to them?

I usually make one or two and most times fail them. I also trying to make challenges to learn something within the year.

17. What makes the holidays special for you?

The whole thing. The music, the films, the clothing, the food, the love, the traditions. I just love Christmas!

Blogger Recognition Award

Comment 1 Standard

Welcome one and all to the marvelous mysterious Blogger Recognition Award. Today I have to thank Laura from Purlls of Wisdom who has tagged me in this, to see her award click HERE. Laura I want to thank you so much for thinking of me, saying those kind words and for being all round AWESOME! You are doing such a great job and to see you grow and build in the community is amazing.

And I strongly recommend everyone who does follow her to go off and do so . . .NOW!

Right let’s get down to brass tax on this one. Here is the copied and pasted jargon. The T&C’s as it were. We all know them, but we have to show we know, you know!

So what exactly is the Blogger Recognition Award?

It’s an award given by other bloggers that think your blog is going places. That, or they think you deserve the recognition. We’re all here to help each other, and bring something new to the table.

Like many of these blogging awards, there are rules; these particular rules, while not-concrete, must be followed to claim the Blogger Recognition Award.

The rules are:

  • Thank the blogger who nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
  • Write a post responding to the nomination.
  • Give a short story on how you started your blog.
  • Give 2 pieces of advice to new bloggers.
  • Nominate 15 other bloggers.
  • Let the bloggers know that you have nominated them. And provide them with a link to the post you created.

The Origin part to my Superhero Story.

I originally decided to get into blog because I wanted to set up a parenting blog, do something creative and help represent the male side of the population. This was all forward thinking as the children conversation hadn’t been discussed with the GF. But I got so excited with what the blog could be that I decided to change it to a documentary of my life so I could build a platform and then when I shift into the parenting world I will be ready. And now I am – because you are all amazing people who read this.

Advice Time for New Bloggers.

  • One: Stay Strong and Sassy! There will be moments you think, this isn’t working, no one is reading this, does that even make sense. Forget all of these thoughts. Blogging isn’t about the numbers and the followers. It’s about YOU! This is a place for you to be who you want and do what you want! There will always be someone who doesn’t like what you say, your thoughts or opinions. But for that one person there will be 10 people praising you. They are good odds.

  • Two: Interact. Don’t be shy. Introduce yourself to people or just comment on something you see. The best friendships come from the smallest step. Half the people I consider amazing blogging pals I can’t tell you how we got talking. But it would have been a small like, or a shared passion and it just blossoms.

The Beginning

My first thought when getting the notification that the lovely Liz from Kentucky was “ooh tagged – she is a gem” then I opened the link. “Flawesome Award? What the fudge is this . . . I like it”. I’ve never heard of it but I love these kind of posts and I am so thankful for the tag. If you don’t know Elizabeth go and check her out, she is funny, insightful, informative and has a tiny obsession with Ryan “Hot Stuff” Reynolds . . . who knows why!

She can be found Here, Here and Here. Blog. Instagram. Twitter.

About the Flawesome Award:

Created by Sophia Ismaa, the objective of the Flawesome Award is to celebrate the flaws that make us awesome. With this award, we are reminded that our flaws are unique things that can give us strength, and make us awesome. Sophia said: “Our flaws make us human, our flaws tell us more about who we are, and in turn we turn those flaws into awesome strengths. In short, our flaws make us #flawesome.”

My Flaws.

I am going to struggle with this post I think, not because I think I am perfect and flawless – because I don’t. More because I struggle to highlight flaws in myself as I always try to turn even the negative things into positive. Which is the aspect of this post so I guess I just need to suck it up and start my usual ramblings.

Flaw 1.

Struggles with being impatient.

IMG_0204I have always been a fantasist. Dreaming of a better life, job, dream. Thinking – when I do this it will mean I can do this, this and that. Which would be awesome. But sadly my life hasn’t gone like that. I become very impatient to want to have that end goal NOW and skip the years of slog it will cost and cause me to get there. But with this is mind I have been able to look at this, process and make smaller targets to build to the bigger picture. Rather than jumping straight for the end goal and getting disheartened when I fail. Instead I can go step by step and build mini victories.

Flaw 2.

Being in Control.

10156132933225582

I have a tendency to be in control, as much as I don’t worry or panic about anything. I still like to know what is going on and the gossip or info. It’s not a great thing because obviously because as soon as I am out of the loop or not able to get the information or knowledge I need I get filled with anxiety and worry that I am going to miss out or not know the answer. But on the flip side what makes the FLAWESOME is that fact I am very observant and always listening. (I’d make a great Spy). Which means even if I am not involved I am gather info. You know upon reading that back it sounds very shifty. Honestly I am a good guy!

Flaw 3.

Caring & Kind.

IMG_20180315_153049_455.jpgWait what? How is that a flaw? You are right is it a flaw? Well in my case I think it can be. I care too much, I want everyone to be happy – even if that means putting my happiness at risk to allow someone else to be happy – I will do that. I always have. It is something I need to work on, everyone deserves to be happy – even me. Not to say I am not, it boils down to priorities doesn’t it. Looking after number one while also caring and spreading love to others.

My Nominees for the Flawesome Award:

Enjoy & Good Luck.

I can’t wait to read all your posts!

10 Unusual Things About Me

Comments 9 Standard

IMG_20180315_153049_455.jpg

So here we are, back again – trying to get an understanding of who I really am? I mean come on guys don’t you know enough already – well Nicola from Nic’s Healthy Life thinks not and so has tagged me in something fun. “Ten Unusual Things About Me” check out her post just HERE and find her on social media – she’s a hoot. – TwitterBlog

So here we go. Firstly let me start by saying 10 is a big number, this is tough. So I am sorry if some of the later ones down the list are just silly.

  1. I put milk in first when making tea. (It’s the British way. Milk cools the china so stop it cracking)
  2. I used to be a Vegetarian – Not sure why or how this came about. Just I remember a period of claiming it. Until I ate a burger at our Year Six School leavers Party. #Wild
  3. I’m allergic to Orange Juice – Awkwardly went on a first date once, she was drinking OJ all night. Then we got to a point where we discussed allergies. We laugh about it now.
  4. I love a challenge! Regardless of what is it – I will try my best to complete it. But I am also wise enough to admit defeat at times.
  5. I am not a fan of Horror films – but I like Supernatural spooky stuff. I think the films thing is because there isn’t really a good Horror now days. Over the top blood fests are just not scary.
  6. I love the era of 1910’s 1920’s Gangsters – the Italian, Irish Mafia Bootleggers. I’d love to experience a week in the life. Maybe I should work on time travel.
  7. I love Christmas – Not much of a hidden fact. But I am running short of ideas and as the season rolls around I felt you should know. I LOVE IT!
  8. As much as I am a film fanatic – I have never seen Titanic.
  9. My favourite number is “19” – can’t tell you why as I don’t know.
  10. I am a big believe in anything and everything unexplainable, creepy, or conspiracy based. JFK Assassination – Magic Bullet hmmm, Zeus and the God, Creepy haunting stuff, Aliens. All of it interests me and I have opinions on all.

Wow I did it. Ten. Go me – what do you think? Happy? Feel like you know me better?

Now to the bit I don’t like with these . . . tagging people. I love to share but this bit is time-consuming and hard to whittle it down to only a handful of awesome people. But here goes I want to know more about; Gemma, Megan, Jay, Soph, Erika, Zara, Katy, Lucy, Anne, Clem.

Team, your challenge is to share 10 unknown facts about yourself so we can get to know you better.

Enjoy!

Molly’s Game – The Review

Comments 9 Standard

Molly's Game Movie Poster

Deal me in.

A week back the lovely GF bought me Molly’s Game with the intention of having a cute film night in. I accidentally went and got very drunk at a wedding which I was meant to come home reasonably sober for the film night. . . . oops.

A week later and it’s on. Pizza was ordered. Comfy clothes are on and the film is in.

I really like a film that is based on a true story, the biopic genre is one of my favourites and this has just slide into my Top 5. . . . I’ll wrote that list down later to confirm.

The film follows Molly Bloom an ex Olympian skier who ended up running some of the most high-class high rolling poker games in L.A. and New York. This film shows her rise, her fall, her court case and her beating in the middle of the night.

Before this film I knew nothing of Molly Bloom. I had known of the Viper Room which was a watering hole of the stars. Being partly owned by the legend that is Johnny Depp. At the start of the film Bloom narrates to the audience saying that the story is true but the places and names have been changed to protect people. So when the Cobra Lounge popped up in the story. You kinda know what she meant.

Related image

The acting was amazing. Jessica Chastain was outstanding, portraying a strong, sassy, intelligent woman climbing her way to the top of this dark underworld of poker. Even seeing Kevin Costner was a flashback to the 90’s hero he used to be. The two had great chemistry and worked off each other so well. Heads up for the scene in the park. That’s all I will say for them.

Making Poker look slick and cool, the same way James Bond did in Casino Royale really made me want to play, maybe even set up a high rolling game. Except High Rolling in my social circle would probably top out at 10 . . . maybe 15 pounds. No thousands and hundreds of thousands here.

Back to the film, this is Aaron Sorkin’s directorial debut as well as writing the adaptation. He is a talent and a breath of fresh air – having written such amazing scripts and works that include; The Newsroom, Studio 60 on the Sunset strip, The West Wing, The Social Network and Steve Jobs. All of these have stunningly amazing scripts, with face cleaver dialogue. Usually setting characters up for long empowered speeches – In this Idris Elba had the privilege and it hard defending Molly.

You might also remember “Is America the greatest country in the World?” it’s a scene from Ep1 of The Newsroom and Sorkin’s writing shines right through. Click the link to remind yourself of that scene. Remember as well this scene is the introduction of the character and he starts like this. Wow.

Overall I really enjoyed the film, it was smart, well put together, informative and captivating all at once. If you haven’t seen it I highly recommend you going out and giving it ago. If you have seen it let me know what you think to it.

Thank you. Cash me out!

img_20180603_205054_895

Oh yeah I forgot. The Top 5 Biopic films: Ok – disclosure it’s not a Johnny Depp appreciate list but he does do justice to every real life person he portrays.

  • Walk the Line
  • Ed Wood
  • Blow
  • Dallas Buyers Club
  • Molly’s Game

That is in no order at all and I was torn by the end, I wanted to put Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Black Mass, Goodfellas, Donnie Brasco and The Social Network in the list. See what I mean by I love Biopic Films.

What are yours?

Peace!

Film Review: Kodachrome

Kodachrome.

We’re all so frightened by time, the way it moves on and the way things disappear. That’s why we’re photographers. We’re preservationists by nature. We take pictures to stop time, to commit moments to eternity. Human nature made tangible.

Last night I found myself with an evening to myself. So after flicking through Netflix for what seemed like forever I stumbled upon this film. I remember seeing the trailer a while back and thinking “Oh that looks good”.

The film is about the troubled relationship between father and son, as they head across America to the only remaining place that can develop this specific photography film. – Which I am lead to believe is based on a true story, or at least the part about the photo shop having an influx of people as they stopped developing the film.

Netflix-film-960x430

It’s such a heartwarming bittersweet tale as we follow Matt (Jason Sudeikis) a music producer that is almost at the end of his rope within in his career and Ben (Ed Harris) his father, a world-famous photographer. Both actors hit their mark amazingly – it’s not a new role for Harris who has a list of talented roles under his belt, but it is refreshing to see Sudeikis take a step away from comedy and break into something with serious heart and drama.

Elizabeth Olsen supports the cast as Zooey, Ben’s carer who joins them for half of the journey. She is refreshing and of late I have started to really rate her (did you see Wild River).

The film had a strong “Into the Wild” feel to it, using similar techniques such as, a mix of amazing acting, moving story and subtle but undeniably fitting soundtrack of acoustic folk music. The whole package in my eyes.

Something like this shows we don’t need big action scenes, fire and car chases to entertain the senses. Strip it all back to basics and just run with a story and a handful of cast members. It works just as well.

trailer-for-netflixs-road-trip-film-kodachrome-with-jason-sudeikis-ed-harris-and-elizabeth-olsen-social

As the story goes on we learn more about the broken relationship between Father and Son, the hardships of adulthood and how life can change and develop (Camera Pun there. Sorry) without even noticing it. There is such a relatable tone to this movie that I still can not shift. It captivated me and did exact what “Into the Wild” did to me. And I am not too proud to hide the fact that by the end I was just laid there, tears in my eyes and emotionally lost for words.

The film ends as you would expect with this story, with the main characters looking at the photos that were the reason to drive across country. They didn’t know what was on the reel’s until this final scene which was captured so beautifully. Without going into too much detail ultimately that is the film – highlighting the fact that era’s and periods shift and change with the wind and the effects are with you forever.

If you looking for a really good feel-good film, or maybe you are just a bit lost and need some kind of therapeutic guidance this film is for you. Like I said I can’t stop thinking about it and I want to share it with as many people as I can. Go and watch it – you won’t be disappointed.

I was tagged in this post by AToughTimeToBeHonest and I for one am grateful for the tag – I love these posts and I think they are amazing ways to learn something about everyone.

And literally a day after being tagged in this, Lana and Ryan from The Cole Camp Fire tagged me too so now I am thanking them and answering more questions set upon me.

Both blogs are amazing and ran by supportive people who has so much passion that they are a credit to the blogging community and their work – go follow, support and share.

The Award strikes again and I was also tagged in LizzumsLivesLife which if you don’t follow you should, she is amazing!

I wont lie I just copied this line from the tagged post because I wouldn’t know where to find the creator – But here we go the creator of the Mystery Blogger Award is Okoto Enigma check out her lifestyle and travel blog here.

Now a chance to shine – three things you might not know about me.

IM

  1. When I was younger, say 7 or 8 I got lost in Matalan, I was too busy running around and darting through the racks that I lost my family. On reflection it was very Blair
Witch. Just manically running in circles.
  2. I am a sucker for fancy dress – I LOVE IT. I don’t go half hearted. It’s all or nothing. Over time I have donned many faces (maybe I should right a post about it) but this is by far one of my favourite costumes.
  3.  And the final thing about me – as much as I find the wildlife and scenery beautiful, I am scared of the Ocean, the depths and what lurks down there. I would much prefer to be stuck in Space than at the bottom of the Ocean. Have you seen some of the critters that live down there?

Now looking at the rules I think there is something missing, or I have made a mistake. But it’s time to continue. . . or make it up as I go along. Going forward I want people to do the three facts and then answer the set questions.

The Questions

From AToughTimeToBeHonest

  1. Where do you see yourself in 10 years. – Family Man. Married with a Child in a nice house with a dog – I can’t wait for the dog!
  2. Favourite drink, alcoholic or not? – Can’t beat a lovely Cuppa Tea or a Gin 😉
  3. Should Pluto be recognised as a planet? – Probably not, he’s a dog! Real answer, Yes I do. My GF’s sister was learning the planets the other week and it occurred to me they have it easier now as when I was learning their was one more. Bring it back!
  4. Android or Apple? – Android for Phone, Apple for Computer.
  5. Post the funniest photo you can of yourself which reminds you of a time you had fun. – Get a load of this! (Pete, Me, Mole & Tom) This was taken at Mole’s Stag do that his now Step Son and my best friend Tom organised. It was such a messy night but so many good memories.263472_195546863830830_3545073_n

The Questions

From The Cole Camp Fire

  1. Do you have pets? Tell me about your pets. – We have a cat at our house which is my GF’s sister but when she moved out she couldn’t take the cat. I am not a fan of the cat! The Cat is the bane of my home life. I can’t wait to move into a house and get a dog. I don’t like Cat’s think they are superior and think they deserve everything – where a dog is loyal and respectful.
  2. If you’re the star of a reality show, what would it be about? – I would say it would be about my life – maybe a video form of my blog. Showcasing me growing up dealing with adult life, planning the next steps and becoming a success.
  3. What is the book you are currently reading? – I am not a big reader, which I will admit I don’t like and wish I could read more. Currently I am reading David Jason’s Only Fools and Stories.
  4. Share with me something we don’t know about you? – Oh golly I am constantly being asked this now days I don’t know what you do and don’t know. Ok I once broke my arm playing basketball, clean snap and had to don a sexy orange cast while it healed.
  5. Michael Jordan or Lebron James? – Being a brit I am not big on Basketball and so would have to pick Michael Jordan on his merit for the Space Jam Movie.

The Questions

From LizzumsLivesLife

  1. Have you ever broken a bone? – Yes, my arm while playing Basketball in High School
  2. When was the last time you went on a stay-cation/overnight trip? – Well I just got back off a real holiday so . . . but last overnight trip was probably visiting my dad a few weeks back – or if that doesn’t count. We went to London last year for a show and weekend away which was cute.
  3. What did you want to grow up to become when you were a child? – A had several jobs on the list when I was young; An Artist, Chef, Fireman.
  4. What is your current music obsession? – George Ezra is my jam at the moment, I am loving his new album and in particular ‘Paradise’
  5. Do you generally prefer the book or it’s movie adaption? – As a film geek I much prefer the films, but then I will go back and read the book. The occasions I have thought. Book wins in recent years is Jo Nesbo’s – The Snowman. I couldn’t put the book down and then the film came out I was so excited . . . only to be let down but a pile of steamy rubbish.

This is a bit I don’t like about these, because one I have to pick people and I want to tag you all and I also need to remember who I am tagging so I can tweet it out. But here we go.
